Star Wars Birthday Party

At our house, the first friend birthday party happens when you turn five. Our youngest son has been talking about his "Star Wars Party" for a year now. Every couple of weeks he would ask if he was five yet. Excitement was an understatement when we told him it was "almost" time. He carried his little invitation list of friends around for weeks. We planned the party for a Friday, then found out three days before the party that his first soccer game was scheduled for the same time. UGH! Rescheduled it to Saturday late afternoon. Then, all day Saturday, it rained. and rained. and rained. God parted the clouds exactly TEN minutes before the party! Hallelujah! We scrambled to get everything put out on the porch and in the yard. It was perfect!

This boy is beyond excited!

Black Paper Lanterns mimic the Death Star.

Darth Vader 3D Piñata was leftover from a nephew's party, but my sister saved it because, well, look at it! It is awesome decor! and now it's discontinued.

I downloaded this font to make the labels and sign.

I taped the food labels to my boys' star wars figures, the taped the figures to the bowls.

Becoming a Jedi...

I had a basket of costumes near the door that the boys could pick out something to wear. Thank goodness for the after Halloween costume sales, I think we own every Star Wars costume!

I made light sabers out of pool noodles. There are plenty of tutorials out there, but I made my own because I had a couple trials and errors and wanted to save y'all the grief.

FYI, pool noodles are NOT easy to locate after swimming season. Amazon has them in all colors! I should have checked there before driving to TEN stores! :)

Balloons are all set out ready for Jedi Training

The boys weaved in and out of the balloons with light sabers learning the tactical skills of a Jedi.

Candy wrapped in foil balls were hidden around much like an Easter Egg hunt.

After all that work, the boys couldn't wait to dig in to their snacks.

Party like a Wookie

After the traditional birthday song and opening of presents, the boys just wanted to PLAY! Thankfully, my older sons had that under control.

I made this little R2D2 years ago (before the days of Pinterest) for my older son to use as his Valentine box. I honestly thought I thought it up all on my own, but I have seen lots on Pinterest now. Maybe they all copied mine... ha ha!!

Here is the Tassel Garland Tutorial I followed. I used a plastic tablecloth because I wanted an outdoor tassel garland that would withstand getting a tiny bit damp.

It is always fun to have a home party. I think they are the parties my boys love the most!

I realize there are many, many StarWars Light Saber tutorials out there. But, I didn't find any that would actually give me a step by step, so I kind of had to just figure it out on my own. After a few trials and errors, I found some perfect solutions. I thought I'd share them here with you.

Supplies:

Pool noodles (each noodle will be cut in half)

One roll of CHROME colored Duck Tape

One roll of BLACK colored Duck Tape

1. Cut the pool noodle in half with a serrated knife on a cutting board (I didn't take a picture of that, but you can figure that out on your own, right?)

2. Start wrapping your noodle with Duck Tape leaving approximately 1.5" overhang

3. With a sharp pair of scissors, clip 0.5" sections all the way around. Your scissors will get sticky. I kept a paper towel with a tiny bit of Goo-Gone on it to wipe the scissors off as needed

4. Fold each piece in toward the middle

If for some reason, your center isn't covered, just cut a piece of tape to cover the hole

5. Wrap three more widths up the noodle, overlapping a little each time

6. Get all the handles wrapped before adding designs

7. On a cutting board, put a length of opposite colored tape and cut strips of tape in desired widths and lengths. I just used a sharp paring knife, but you could use an exacto knife. I tried tearing the tape and it was pretty messy looking. The cutting board was the neatest, easiest, and fastest method, in my opinion.

This is a simple tutorial showing you how to fix that spraying faucet!

Out of control spray!

Simply grab an old rag and pliers and twist off the aerator in a clockwise position.

If it isn't coming off, you may need to clean any residue from around the joints.

(Rag is to protect the aerator from getting scratched)

With a firm twist, I got my aerator off. This was in my faucet. Gross!!!

(Disclaimer: We have well water and have numerous filters, but extremely hard water)

I had to use a flat-head screw driver to remove the o-ring

Then, I pushed gently with the end of my pliers to push the screens out.

Not sure why there were two o-rings and two screens... but there it is in all of its glory.

Soak it all in a bowl of white distilled vinegar until all the sediment is loose.

Rinse the screens under water and everything should come loose. You can also use a product called CLR, but I didn't have any handy, so I stuck with vinegar.

At this time, it would be a good idea to replace the o-ring, but I didn't want to run to the store and mine were okay for today. I'll put that on my list.

Put it all back in the aerator.

Place the aerator back on the faucet in a counter-clockwise position.

Voila! A steady stream again!!!

Wasn't that easy?!
