How To Fix a Spraying Faucet

Ever wonder why your spray comes out of your faucet all crazy?  
This is a simple tutorial showing you how to fix that spraying faucet!


Out of control spray!




Simply grab an old rag and pliers and twist off the aerator in a clockwise position.  
If it isn't coming off, you may need to clean any residue from around the joints.
(Rag is to protect the aerator from getting scratched)




With a firm twist, I got my aerator off.  This was in my faucet.  Gross!!!
(Disclaimer:  We have well water and have numerous filters, but extremely hard water)




I had to use a flat-head screw driver to remove the o-ring




Then, I pushed gently with the end of my pliers to push the screens out. 




Not sure why there were two o-rings and two screens... but there it is in all of its glory.




Soak it all in a bowl of white distilled vinegar until all the sediment is loose.




Rinse the screens under water and everything should come loose.  You can also use a product called CLR, but I didn't have any handy, so I stuck with vinegar.
At this time, it would be a good idea to replace the o-ring, but I didn't want to run to the store and mine were okay for today.  I'll put that on my list.




Put it all back in the aerator. 




Place the aerator back on the faucet in a counter-clockwise position.




Voila!  A steady stream again!!!  



Wasn't that easy?!








Eleven Gables Butler's Pantry


Here it is!  The Butler's Pantry, Laundry Room, Wrapping room, Craft room!  

  
What was once a tiny laundry closet, with the only door leading out to the pool, is now one of my favorite spaces in my home.

The faucet was saved from my old kitchen while the apron front sink is new.  This one is now discontinued, but I found the same brand, similar style kitchen faucet here or bathroom faucet here.

I really love to hang dry my clothes but I don't enjoy the space that my old drying rack took. I used the parts from this drying rack and made what you see here!




I love my laundry basket system!   
Now, to get the boys to actually put their dirty clothes IN the baskets!!




The huge turtle shell was found by my oldest son.  I cleaned it up then shellacked it.  




The ribbons are held in the drawer using curtain tension rods




Acrylic drawers help keep my boys organized.





Yes, I totally spray painted my pencil sharpener!!  Isn't it fab?!




Life with five males lends itself to eating a lot of food. Baskets help keep my pantry area organized. 






After spending HOURS trying to construct a  wooden can holder thingy off Pinterest that ultimately didn't work very well (cans wouldn't roll to the front), I tried these stackable baskets and they were the PERFECT solution!  
I love a happy accident. 


I have since found THESE and although they are taller, they will work beautifully in a pantry.




Who doesn't love a pocket door?!  This pocket door was the original door that lead out of the laundry room to the pool.  It was important to get light into the hallway, so we refinished, converted, and installed it in this location. I think it adds so much charm.

Roasted Garden Salsa

I blogged about this recipe many years ago. It has been a favorite of our family's, so I thought with tomato season upon us, I'd share it again!

Roasted Garden Salsa
6 medium tomatoes (plus a few cherry tomatoes from the garden)
4-5 tomatillos
4 garlic cloves (unpeeled)
2 jalepenõ peppers
1 red bell pepper
1 medium white onion (quartered)
Spread ingredients on a foil lined baking pan. Spray with cooking oil and toss to lightly coat.

Roast at 350* for 45 minutes to give the veggies a deep, rich flavor
Finish with a 4-5 minute broil... Watch carefully, remove when veggies start to get slightly charbroiled.
Let cool about 15 minutes.
  Peel & core tomatoes. Set aside in a colander to let juices & seeds drain into sink (or save juice for other recipes)
  Peel garlic by cutting off the end and just popping it out of the skin.
  Peel red pepper. Remove stem, spine, and seeds.
  Cut jalepenõ peppers in half lengthwise. Remove spine and seeds. (may want to wear gloves if you are sensitive)





Place all roasted ingredients in a cuisinart.
Add the following ingredients to the cuisinart:
3/4 cup fresh cilantro
1 tablespoon honey
1  1/2 tsp salt
1 tablespoon lime juice

Pulse until desired consistency.

S'mores on a cold July day


So it's 65 degrees and raining here today and I have a craving for chocolate!  I love a gooey s'more, so I thought I'd whip some up for the boys. 

Fire up the stove and roast those marshmallows on up!


Place your graham cracker on top and slide those marshmallows off!


Look at that gooey yummyness

Easy homemade croutons for Caesar Salad and a Haven Conference recap


I just returned home from a fun blogging conference in Atlanta called Haven.  I was able to meet many of my blogging and Instagram friends.  It was really so much fun meeting and making new friends!

While at the conference, I told some of my friends about my homemade Caesar Salad Dressing with homemade croutons and everyone wanted the recipe so I thought I would start by sharing it here.  This is part 1--The Croutons.


To begin, I use my electric knife and slice up some day old bread... sourdough, french, whatever white bread you have on hand will work.  Slices should be cubed about 1" x 1"


Next, I put the cubes in a gallon ziplock bag and drizzle with extra virgin olive oil to lightly coat.  Leaving air in the bag, zip it closed and shake the bag to coat the bread with the oil.


Cover a sheet pan with foil and spread the bread cubes on the pan in a single layer.


Lightly sprinkle with kosher salt.  


Place in a preheated oven to 350* F.  Bake for 20 minutes or until toasted.


Remove from oven and taste a few.... YUM!  They should be crunchy all the way through.


Sprinkle croutons on top of salad or soup.  Delicious recipes for both coming soon!!



Easy Homemade Croutons by Eleven Gables

2 loaves day old bread
1/2 cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil
1 gallon ziplock bag
Kosher Salt to taste
