Valentine Heart Garland

Valentine's Day is my favorite holiday!
Pink, Pink, & more Pink....
Chocolates and Conversation Hearts...
What a wonderful holiday telling my sweeties how much I love them.  To me, Valentine's Day also marks the near arrival of spring!!  Flowers, Color, Dirt, Fresh Warm Air....

When I stumbled upon this heart garland on Pinterest, I had to have it for my mantle!  The link on Pinterest took me to an etsy page and the garland was sold out.  I thought it wouldn't be too difficult to make it myself.  Here is a little tutorial to show you how you can make one (or three) also!

I used anything heart shaped around my house and traced them onto cardstock.

I purchased 1/4 yard of four colors of felt.  There weren't many to choose from so I went with Red, Hot Pink, Pale Pink, and White.
(1/4 yard is waaaaaaay too much for this project, but that is the minimum amount I had to purchase)

Let the cutting begin!  I cut out six of each heart, nine "X's" and nine "O's"

When I felt like I had cut out enough, I lined them up, arranged and rearranged until it all looked balanced to me.

Then, you will start stacking the hearts from right to left....

until it looks like this:

I had enough to make at least three garlands

Now, comes the super fun and easy part!
Start sewing in a contrast thread (I used PINK).  Just take one off the stack and line it up as you stitch in a straight line (this is super easy for the beginner seamstress!)

When you are finished it will look like this:

Wishing you and yours a beautiful, peaceful, and Romantic Valentine's Day!

xoxo,  Emily

  2. I love this!! My kids and I used to make paper garlands all the time when we were snowed in. And guess what? I just learned how to use my sewing machine this week! So maybe...just maybe I can sew one of these adorable felt garlands. I'll keep you updated on my progress. Might take me until Christmas :) Thanks for sharing a nice easy sewing project for a newbie like me!
